What Shrek Soundtrack Song is on Austin's Running Playlist (from I Hate Your Taste in Movies) and Do The Shrek 1 & 2 Soundtracks Go Harder than They Need To?

We’re at EPISODE 75! To commemorate this momentous occasion, we have invited back Austin from I Hate Your Taste in Movies to talk about not just one soundtrack, but two! Brandice, Nicole and Ryan discuss the groundbreaking soundtracks to Shrek 1 and Shrek 2 with Austin, with even a passing mention of Shrek 3. These blockbuster films made a ton of money for Dreamworks at the box office, but the soundtracks to the original Shrek and it’s sequel sold a ton of copies as well and we chat about the reasons why they resonated so well with fans.

We also discuss:

  • How Shrek was one of the 1st if not the 1st film to license Leonard Cohen’s iconic “Hallelujah”
  • The laborious process to get Smashmouth to sign off on licensing “All Star” for the movie and how they originally did not want to cover “I’m a Believer”.
  • How Shrek 2 passed on a song from some indie-rock legends and how it kind of indirectly broke up the band (again).
